Garmin Resolves Boot-Up Error Affecting Smartwatches and Cycling Computers

Garmin has officially resolved the underlying issue that left many of its smartwatches and cycling computers stuck on the “blue triangle of death” screen. The company has released new troubleshooting steps to restore affected devices, though some models will require a factory reset, leading to data loss.

🔹 Affected Models: Epix, Fenix, Instinct, Descent, Enduro, Forerunner, Vivoactive, Venu, and Approach series smartwatches, along with Edge cycling computers.
🔹 Suspected Cause: Community discussions suggest GPS activity tracking may have triggered the issue, though Garmin has not officially confirmed this.

How to Fix a Garmin Watch Stuck on the Blue Triangle Screen

If your Garmin smartwatch is still stuck on the startup screen, follow these steps:

✅ Step 1: Try a Standard Restart – Press and hold the power button until the device powers off, then turn it back on.

✅ Step 2: Sync Your Watch – If the device boots up normally, immediately sync it with the Garmin Connect app on your phone or via Garmin Express on a PC to prevent the issue from happening again.

✅ Step 3: Force a Restart with Garmin Express (For Epix, Fenix, Instinct, Descent & Enduro Series)

    • Connect the watch to a PC or Mac with Garmin Express installed.
    • Allow the watch to sync with Garmin Express.
    • Once syncing is complete, disconnect the watch and restart it normally.

✅ Step 4: Factory Reset (For Forerunner, Vivoactive, Venu, and Approach Series)

    • If the previous steps fail, a full factory reset will be necessary using a series of button presses.
    • ⚠ Warning: This will erase all stored data, including Garmin Wallet, custom watch faces, apps, and body battery data.

Fixing the Issue on Garmin Edge Cycling Computers

For those using Garmin Edge cycling computers, Garmin recommends:

✅ Step 1: Connect the device to a Windows PC and locate the CPE.bin file in the device’s storage. Delete it manually and restart the device.

✅ Step 2: If the issue persists, perform a master reset and pair the device again with your smartphone.

Final Thoughts: Garmin Users Should Sync Devices ASAP

🚀 Garmin has assured users that the core issue has been fixed, but syncing your smartwatch or cycling computer is crucial to avoid future boot failures.

💡 If your device is working again, Garmin recommends syncing it immediately with Garmin Connect or Garmin Express to apply the latest fixes.
